Janet Finch-Saunders AM, Shadow Welsh Minister for Children and Young People, has been working with Conwy County Borough Council to establish a schools county football team.
Currently there is no such team in Conwy.
Further to her correspondence, the Local Authority have advised that an effort will be made to establish a team during the next academic year.
Commenting on the situation, Janet said:
“The lack of a County team may have resulted in pupils missing out on opportunities to represent Wales in matches, such as against Scotland, Ireland,
Cyprus and Malta.
“We have a wealth of sporting talent in our County, and I am delighted that the Local Authority shares my ambition of ensuring that all pupils receive the best chance to compete at the highest level.
“PE teachers and local teams make a fantastic contribution, but the provision of a County team would make it a hattrick for our young people with footballing ambitions.
“I am delighted that plans are afoot to create a squad next academic year”.
