Commenting on the warning from Mario Kreft of Care Forum Wales that half the care homes in Wales could close, Janet Finch-Saunders AM – the Shadow Welsh Minister for Social Care – said:

“If this stark warning comes true, the human impact will be devastating for the residents, their families, and the employees of care homes here in Wales.

“The Welsh Government has announced some £40 million for the adult social care sector, but care homes have yet to see this materialise.

“People in the sector - care home owners and staff - I have spoken with say they need the funds release now, and need to know what else the Welsh Government will do to help the sector because the prospect of 300 or more care homes closing doesn’t near thinking about.”
